Sponsor a Child

After I settle down with my 1st job, there's one thing I really want to do.
Sth that I've been wanting to do since abt 5 years ago.
It's more than buying a branded bag for myself or getting a car.

I hope I can sponsor a child in the developing countries.
I hope I can share my blessings with the less fortunate, and help to give them a chance in doing great things for God.

Maybe you can adopt a child too, it's only about USD38/mth and you can make a whole life of difference for this kid.

In the mean time

Still waiting to sign the apptment letter.. Hopefully nxt week :)
Pops went for his 1st interview ysterday, we both really really hope he gets the job.
It'll mean ALOT to us :)
But we know full well dat we need to place all our faith in God as he guides us thru His plan.

Read some blogs and talked to some of my friends abt finding jobs.
I won't deny it's not dat easy for Arts students to find jobs, esp psych major.
Actually, u can see it both ways - u are open to most jobs or u are not specialized in most jobs.

A couple of my frens managed to get jobs in psych-related fields, dealing with Autistic children, teaching, therapists. Some of them are looking for jobs in psych areas as well. Not easy. Considering we are now reqd to have Masters to practice. But I salute them for their passion and desire to stay true to their field of study. Sth I wld love to do, but maybe not now. In fact, I applied for school counselling as well but they din get bk to me. What I've been told is that there are alrdy at least 1 counsellor in each sch. Not that it's enuf (in fact, I believe it's hardly the bare minimum), but because most schools are unable (or unwilling) to pay for one more.

B4 considering to apply for HR positions, I spoke to some of my ex-colleagues and working frens and relatives. Alot of diff suggestions and advices.

Some say study 1st b4 u lose the momentum, the more u work, the more u dun feel like studying. But I've alrdy lost the momentum to study. 4 years is a good time to tk a break and do sth else except study. Plus, I wld really like to save up for my own grad studies if i ever pursue it :)

Others say work, and find a job dat pays u decent, passion is a myth, money IS passion. I dunno... but I hope it's not true. At least not all true. I understand that s'times we have more commitments than passion can afford to sustain, but doing sth that u dislike, or have totally NO interest in? I'd hate to be pulling myself out of bed everyday, dreading and feeling not just Monday-blues, but WEEKDAYS-blues.

I told my internship supervisor that I wanna do sth related to counselling, she told me to stay open. She worked in a completely non-psych related field aft her undergrad studies for a couple of years b4 pursuing clin psych masters. Studying is one thing, working is another. You dun noe exactly wad u're cut out for, until u try.

Going into HR is gng to be an adventure. I've got no experience or technical knowledge of it per se, but it's sth I THINK I can see myself doing, sth I even considered studying when I'm choosing my course for uni. Furthermore, one of my colleagues is doing HR and he really gave me alot of help and insights as to wad the field is abt, helping me to be more certain of my decision. Now that I got to study sth I really really like and still manage to find a decent job that I am interested in, I guess in some ways, I'm fortunate too :)

If I find HR a field that I really want to build my career in, I'd definitely further my studies in it and get proper certification in HRM. If not, I'd be saving up for counselling or even organizational psych :)

As of now, I NEED to start studying for my 3 final papers in 2 weeks' time.
Extremely low low low motivation and high high high inertia because I realise that as long as I dun fail, the final exam wun affect my pay :P
BUT I promised myself to always give my best in all opportunities that God has provided me with.
I really sld study... STUDYYYY!

** I feel like going IKEA again...

Officially... offered.

haha... the title sounds awkward...

Anw... came to sch early this morning and while pops was getting his breakfast and me eating my peanutbutterbread...
I felt my ph vibrating....
But b4 I had the chance to take it out, it switched to a missed call...
Checked the no. and it's soooooo familiar...

Because it's the no. I've been waiting for for the past few days...

Called back with escalating excitement, and poppy was staring at me with anticipation as well...

"Yes yes definitely, sure, no problem, 14th June, OK!"

Twirls ard in joy~~~
(the last time I twirled ard in joy was when pops said his sinner's prayer and got baptised)

I was offered a job!! But I still have to go for medical check-ups b4 I can sign the appointment letter... So till then, I will only be Officially Offered, and not Officially Employed hahaa

When I was initially asked to go down for interview, I honestly had no idea when or what did I apply to :| I think I applied thru careers@gov... It's only during my 1st interview that I was told that the position wld be related to corporate development.
Midway thru, they told me that they have an internal position for HR and asked if I might be interested. U bet I jumped at the chance :)

The 2nd interview with them was great... there were 3 interviewers, but the atmosphere wasn't tense or anxiety-provoking at all...
They were very friendly and polite when asking questions and eventually, it became more like a conversation b/w 4 ppl rather than an interview... we were laughing and cracking little jokes and I find that I cld answer their qns honestly and comfortably.. altho at one pt I was squirming in awkwardness when they asked me whether I'd like to "contribute" to the event organizing part for the organisation with my hiphop experience. O_O

That apart, I'm surprised to say I actually enjoyed the interview session :) I think it's impt for interviewees to feel at ease during interview because the main pt of the interview (at recruitment) is not to scare them off or see how well they perform under extreme stress, but what's their disposition like, how well can they fit into the org culture and generally do they have the ability to perform in their jobs and whether they have the attitude to get them far.

Will be working in the field of HR for a gov sector (not sure if I sld say the name here, in case someone google and find this haha). I guess HR is somewhat the closest thing I can get to psych related jobs (when I cant further my studies in psych yet) because there will still be interpersonal interactions (and it's not in the form of sales or customer svs) and the HR manager also told me that at times, we have to act as "Aunt Agony" to listen to the problems that the staff might face. Sounds good to me :)

And from what I hear during the interview, I really like the company culture... They seemed to be aiming towards even more holistic, uniform and validated way of HR practice. Hopefully Organisational Psych can come in useful here :))
They even asked me which area I wld like to contribute to their community service involvement and I told them mental health :) I hope I get to do it!!

Ok... i intended this post to be a really short one. But it has turned out to be one of my usual long-winded descriptive essays again. dammit.

My whole pt here is.... I really want to thank God for giving me His wonderful blessings that I'm able to stay calm and collected during the interviews to give the best side of me to the interviewers :) Also to thank him for helping me stay faithful and certain that whatever happened, even the initial rejection from T* was part of his amazing plan (my future workplace will be just 4 mrt stns away!) He has taught me how to commit all my worries to Him and simply trust Him and just give my best to all the opportunities that He has given me. Right now, I just hope that everything goes well until I sign the appointment letter :)

Thank u so much also to my ex-colleagues who had helped me a great deal and friends and churhies who prayed for me :) I really feel God's peace and blessings... thanks so much guys!!

And pls pray for XW as he goes for his interview tmr morning... :) :) :)
